SENIORS THEATRE PROGRAM

Theatre Arts and Opportunities provides theater classes for seniors.  Currently classes are taught at Cascades Assisted Living in Bethel, Newtown Senior Center, and the Cyrenius Booth Library.  These classes teach all aspects of theatre skills, including playwriting, acting, improv and singing. Theater games and writing prompts open up a world of creativity that many students never knew they had.

Each of the ten-week programs culminates in a production that everyone has had a hand in creating.  More than anything, these classes create a sense of community, camaraderie and just plain fun!

SENIOR CLASS PRESENTATION AT THE CYRENIUS BOOTH LIBRARY

I can’t speak highly enough about Beth Young and her theater classes at the library. Beth creates a warm and supportive environment that makes every participant feel valued and seen. Her encouragement is genuine and allows students to feel confident enough to express themselves.

Beth’s classes are not just about learning the craft of theater; they’re about building a vibrant, inclusive community. Her humor and enthusiasm create a space where laughter and learning go hand in hand. Through her guidance, participants not only hone their writing and acting skills, but also form meaningful connections with each other.

Beth Young has a unique ability to transform a group of individuals into a cohesive, supportive ensemble. The library community is very thankful for Beth’s ability to create such a welcoming space for us all!

SENIOR THEATRE PRESENTATION AT THE NEWTOWN SENIOR CENTER

Bringing Beth Young to teach this fantastic acting class at the senior center has truly transformed the experience for many of our members. It has not only rekindled their creative spirit but also allowed seniors to bond in a fun and supportive atmosphere. Beth, the instructor, is both patient and encouraging, helping participants build their confidence in expressing themselves through performance. This class is a fantastic way to stay active, keep mentally engaged, and even forge new friendships. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an enjoyable and enriching activity!

SENIOR THEATRE STUDENTS AT THE CASCADES ASSISTED LIVING

Beth Young runs a theatre group weekly with my residents as well as every few months they put on an actual play that all residents, staff and family members are invited to. My residents love this program, I hear from my office a lot of laughter and fun while creating their next show or even just having fun creating their own stories and jokes. I video tape their plays so we can watch them together. This program is very important to my folks and brings a lot of residents together. The residents really look forward to the days that Beth comes in for our theatre program as it gives them a chance to reminisce and tell stories of their past as they create short stories for their plays. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. It truly is a special program.
